About the Book

Roz Stevenson’s African American family had a rare opportunity to attend the Academy Awards® in 1964 and it changed her life. The invitation was extended to her father by Sam Brown, who was executive director of the Academy. Her father had a lucrative janitorial business and Brown was a client. The highlight of the night was when Sidney Poitier became the first Black man to win an Oscar® for Best Actor in Lilies of the Field. After that magical night, Stevenson was determined to be a part of Hollywood life.

LOOK AT GOD! MY HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAITH is Stevenson’s memoir, which reveals how — after years of seeking in all the wrong places — she discovered her purpose and became a trailblazing motion picture publicist. She made her mark promoting films at top movie studios for two decades before becoming the President/CEO of her firm, Roz Stevenson Public Relations, dedicated to marketing to the African American audience. During her storied career, she has worked with such luminaries as Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Cicely Tyson, Jamie Foxx, Halle Berry, Spike Lee, Eddie Murphy, Bill Cosby, Regina King, Will Smith, Viola Davis, Bernie Mac, Morgan Freeman and Octavia Spencer, to name a few.

Stevenson shares how in the aftermath of the Watts Uprising in the '60s many government-funded Anti-Poverty Programs were created in the Black community. She joined an acting workshop in her neighborhood, which gave her an opportunity to pursue a career in Hollywood. She shares how she traveled down various dead-end roads before finding her true gift as a publicist.

Both an inspirational and a hilarious account of how her life finally came together after years of trials and errors. Stevenson is an open book about what it was like to be a young, wide-eyed "groupie" stepping into an unforgiving Hollywood. When determination and good intentions were not enough, eventually, she bowed down and humbly asked God for direction. In turn, He mercifully began pouring out miracles into her life and she found purpose and her perfect partner, pioneering and Emmy Award®-winning film hair stylist Robert Louis Stevenson. Stevenson’s testimony is meant to encourage others to be guided by the wisdom of someone who has done it all. She wants readers to know that dreams can come true when you look above.
